Ludhiana: On Wednesday, the Ludhiana rural police apprehended two men and claimed to have recovered illicit firearms from them. Police said they had obtained illegal weapons in Madhya Pradesh and were going to raise funding from pro-Khalistan elements in other countries. According to the police, both were motivated by Khalistani ideology.
One of the suspects was found with a 32-bore pistol and six live rounds, while another accused was found with a 30-bore pistol, two magazines, and 12 live ammunition. Police also found a Royal Enfield motorcycle in their possession, The Indian Express reported.
SSP for rural Ludhiana Deepak Hilori stated that one of the accused had spent some time in Italy with his wife.
"However, he returned once his relationship with his wife soured and both had obtained illicit guns in Madhya Pradesh," stated the SSP.
"They became radicalised upon seeing pro-Khalistan information on social media. Their contacts with pro-Khalistan individuals in exile are being investigated. We have obtained a three-day police remand for questioning," the SSP added.
According to police sources, both suspects were preparing to stage pro-Khalistan events in Punjab in order to attract the attention of Khalistani operators based overseas and for getting funding for the purchase of more weapons.
At Dakha police station, an FIR was lodged against both accused under Sections 25/54/59 of the Arms Act.
