Srinagar: In a major victory for the security forces, a huge cache of arms and ammunition including seven AK-47 assault rifles near the Line of Control (LoC) in Nowshera Nard area of the frontier Gurez sector in the north Kashmir's Bandipora district.
In a major blow to the intentions of terrorist groups operating from across the LoC, Srinagar-based PRO Defence Col Emron Musavi informed that the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police foiled the terrorists' design to deliver huge cache of weapons, ammunition and grenades to cause terror activities and unrest in the Valley.
"On September 27, based on intelligence from police and human sources of the Indian Army under aegis of 109 Infantry Brigade launched a search operation along Naushera Nard till the LoC in Gurez sector," the PRO said.
According to Col Musavi, seven AK rifles, two Chinese Pistols, 13 Chinese Grenades, 21 AK magazines, four pistol magazines, 1190 AK ammunition and 132 pistol ammunition were recovered.
Meanwhile, two local Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists, who were planning to target the Indian Army's Agniveer recruitment rally were killed in an encounter with security forces in Baramulla district today.
The security forces recovered an AKS-74U rifle, three magazines, a pistol, a pistol magazine and two bullets.
Notably, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Jammu and Kashmir on October 4 to attend rallies in Rajouri and Baramulla.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Baramulla, Rayees Bhat said the terrorists were planning to target the Army's Agniveer recruitment rally which concluded in Pattan's Hyderbeig on September 29.
