Separate toilets, queues, free education, other transgender welfare schemes to be implemented in UP

Special toilets for transgender persons, separate queues at hospital OPDs, separate wards in hospitals for them, free education from middle school, easy banking facilities for business, sensitivity training for policemen were some among the many decisions and instructions made at a meeting for transgender welfare in Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh.

Mathura: A key member of Uttar Pradesh Transgenders Welfare Board, Devika Devendra S Mangala Mukhi with the members of the district level welfare board in Mathura conducted a review on the implementation of transgender welfare schemes in Mathura district, reported Dainik Bhaskar.
Board member Devika Devendra S Mangala Mukhi directed the district officials to arrange a separate ward for transgender persons in each hospital. She said also instructed for a separate line to be arranged for them at the OPD. At least one toilet should be reserved for transgender persons in the accessible toilets built in urban areas.
During the meeting, the officials of the Education Department were directed that arrangements should be made to provide free education to the transgenders from class 6 onwards. Instructions to ensure easy availability of banking facilities for transgender persons who want to do business in the district were also given.
For the police department, Mukhi specifically instructed that it should increase its sensitivity towards transgender persons and a separate transgender cell and special police officers should be made available for them to investigate.
She asked all the local administrative officials present there to give special priority to transgender persons when it comes to welfare schemes.
Mukhi appealed to the other members of the transgender community who came to the meeting to make all the transgender persons living in the district aware to take advantage of the government schemes and all the transgenders should get their identity cards issued with special attention. So that they can get the benefit of future schemes.
