Shivamogga: A day after a man was stabbed in Karnataka's Shivamogga over a banner of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, state Home Minister Araga Jnanendra said that there was nothing wrong in installing the poster of the Hindutva ideologue, who he said fought for the freedom of the country.
Prem Singh (20) was stabbed after clashes broke out between two communities Shivamogga over putting up a banner featuring the image of Savarkar on Monday.
Jnanendra earlier today held a meeting with ADGP Law and Order Alok Kumar and other senior police officials in Shivamogga over the law and order situation in the district.
“We don't decide anything on the basis of religion. Peace must prevail, we have to maintain law and order in the state. We will hold a thorough investigation. No such events should happen here again,” he said after the meeting.
“Nobody should take the law into their hands at any cost. What is wrong with installing a poster of Savarkar? He fought for the freedom of the country,” he added.
So far, four people have been arrested in connection with the stabbing, he said.
Following the clash, prohibitory orders under section 144 of the IPC were imposed in the town.
A case of attempt to murder was also registered under section 307 of the IPC against those who stabbed Singh.
