A 60-year-old self-proclaimed godman was arrested by the Pune City Police for allegedly raping a woman on the pretext of curing her son and improve her the financial condition of her family. The woman’s son is specially-abled. An FIR has been registered at Hadapsar police station on the complaint of the 36-year-old survivor.

Pune: A 60-year-old self-proclaimed godman was arrested by the Pune City Police for allegedly raping a woman on the pretext of curing her son and improve her the financial condition of her family. The woman’s son is specially-abled.
An FIR has been registered at Hadapsar police station on the complaint of the 36-year-old survivor. The police have booked the godman under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code related to rape, assault with an intent to disrobe, criminal breach of trust and cheating, as well as provisions of the Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013, reported The Indian Express.
The godman has been identified as Dhananjay Gohad (60) aka Nana. A search operation has been launched for his 35-year-old woman accomplice.
The survivor and the accused came in contact with each other in January 2021. In her complaint, the survivor has alleged that in April, Gohad came to ger house on the pretext of ‘removing the spell of negative powers’. During that time he forced her to disrobe and raped her. He even threatened her that if she did not keep quiet her husband and brother would die in accidents and her second child would be born with disabilities.
On May 27, the woman approached Hadapsar police station after she informed her brother about the incident.
Vishwas Dagle, Inspector (Crime) of Hadapsar police said that a first information report was immediately registered after the victim approached the police station considering the seriousness of the offence. On Saturday, the accused was produced before the court and was remanded in police custody for five days.
