BJP MLA Siddharth Shirole questions unprofessional conduct during Chandani Chowk old bridge demolition in Pune

The construction of multi-layer flyover near Chandani Chowk bridge began in 2019 and was supposed to be completed by 2021 but got delayed due to various reasons.
By Swarali: BJP MLA Siddharth Shirole has slammed the mismanagement during the controlled demolition of old bridge at Chandani Chowk in Pune district of Maharashtra on Monday. The demolition caused a massive traffic jam for over one hour in the area.
Shirole slammed the authorities for causing inconvenience to the commuters. Shirole said he has reached out to CM, Deputy CM and Guardian Minister through written letters and discussed the issue with District Collector Rajesh Deshmukh.
"What happened in Chandani Chowk on Monday was highly deplorable. People here were stuck in traffic for 2-3 hours. No prior information was provided. And it was a blast which could have endangered lives. Collector has assured me that by next week traffic movement will be regularized.", said Shirole.
Mirror Now did a ground report from the spot and questioned traffic department and NHAI officials over the timings of the demolition. A yet another set of blasts are conducted as the hard rock adjoining the demolished bridge is supposed to be eliminated for the road widening.
DCP (Traffic) Rahul Shrirame said, "Blasts for 20 minutes duration are regularly conducted. Even this was supposed to block road for 20 minutes. It turned out to be a major blast as the debris covered the road and it took more time to clear the road and the traffic got mismanaged."
He further said, "We have requested NHAI officials to conduct future blasts at night. On Tuesday night too from 11:30 pm to 1:30 am, traffic will be stopped. From next time, we will disseminate information beforehand so that alternative routes can be used by commuters."
Explaining about the technical details, NHAI official Ankit Yadav said, "We can't predict how many more explosions are required to complete destruction of hard rock. But most probably, Tuesday night's blast will be the last one to hamper traffic movement."
The construction of multi-layer flyover near Chandani Chowk bridge began in 2019 and was supposed to be completed by 2021 but got delayed due to various reasons including land acquisition, weather, traffic, etc.
And thus, the bridge demolition was big step to speed up the process.
However, on the very next day of demolition, the national highway was blocked for more than 1.5 hours. People were stranded in long traffic cluelessly. Some of them were school kids, people having medical appointments or to catch a flight.
Since the inception of project and its construction, the area has suffered traffic issues. The question remains when will people get respite from the issue of traffic jam.
