Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has ordered a ban on animal slaughter and the sale of meat in the city on October 2, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
The civic body implemented a similar ban in August on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, Martyrs’ Day, and Janmashtami.
Earlier in April this year, the Bengaluru civic corporation issued an order prohibiting animal slaughter and the sale of meat on Rama Navami.
Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated on October 2 every year to mark the birthday of India's beloved Bapu, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. This year the nation will celebrate the 153rd birth anniversary of Mahatama Gandhi who is remembered for his principles of 'Ahimsa' or non-violence and peace.
