Toronto-based film director Leena Manimekalai is facing separate FIRs in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh for allegedly hurting religious sentiments over her film poster depicting Hindu deity Kaali in an unflattering manner. She said in a statement while speaking to The Guardian, “It feels like the whole nation - that has now deteriorated from the largest democracy to the largest hate machine - wants to censor me,” said Manimekalai. “I do not feel safe anywhere at this moment", she added.
