Mumbai Penal action to be taken against anyone obstructing metro operations
Mumbai: Maha Mumbai Metro Operations Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) has warned citizens that penal action amounting to a jail term or fine, or both, will be taken against anyone who is found obstructing the operations of Metro.
The warning was issued after an incident at the Dahisar Metro station. CCTV footage from the metro station revealed that a man attempted to open the platform screen door which halted train operations for three minutes on August 8.
Meanwhile, work on the first-ever two-deck flyover, that will have road traffic and the Metro line 1 below it, is in progress and the structure is slowly starting to take shape along Mumbai Metro Line 9 route between Dahisar and Mira Bhayander.
In this project, contractors have been using a straddle carrier which builds the bridge as it moves ahead for the first time.
The 11.386-km-long stretch which has 10 stations, is an extension of Mumbai Metro Red Line 7, which runs between Andheri and Dahisar. Part of this metro line has been operational since April this year.
Moreover, the Maharashtra Cabinet in a meeting that was to be held today will approve Rs 33,405.82 crore from Rs 3,136 crore in the Mumbai Metro-3 project, a rise of Rs 10,269.82 crore or about 44 per cent.
Several reasons are being given for the increase, including the time taken in excavation work due to the presence of basalt rock, the use of bottom-up construction technology for want of space, the extra cost incurred on account of rocky layers and the need to dispose of them, and the need to erect temporary steel decks for road traffic to allow construction of underground stations as many of them are in congested areas.
