Gurugram: Woman retrieves her phone after tracking snatcher thanks to her smartwatch

Gurugram news: The victim claimed that the snatcher also managed to make some transactions of over Rs 50,000 from her phone. An FIR has been filed at Palam Vihar police station in this regard.

Gurugram: Using her fitbit smartwatch, a woman in Haryana's Gurugram has managed to track down a snatcher and recover her lost phone. Police said the accused is yet to be identified.
The incident reportedly took place on August 28. However, the FIR in the case was filed on Monday. The victim works at a private firm in the city.
In her complaint to police, the woman stated that she went to market to buy groceries on the day of the incident in Sector 23 market. "A man who was standing near me snatched my phone and fled as I was making a mobile transaction. I started looking for the accused. As my phone was connected to my fitbit smartwatch, I managed to find his location. I located him sitting on a motorbike with my stolen phone. I confronted the man and he dropped my phone and fled," a report in Indian Express said quoting from the woman's FIR.
According to the woman, the thief also managed to make some transactions from her phone. Probing the case, police said the accused made over Rs 50,000 transactions from her phone.
A police officer said the woman managed to track the accused as her device was connected to her smartwatch. After snatching the phone, the accused remained in the same area. The incident took place between 6.30 pm and 9.15pm on August 28.
Police said they are verifying the woman's complaint for further action. An FIR has been filed at Palam Vihar police station.
