Hyderabad: Traffic comes to standstill for mass recital of national anthem; CM K Chandrashekar Rao, Asaduddin Owaisi participate

Vehicular traffic in Hyderabad came to a standstill on Tuesday morning as the city participated in a mass singing of the national anthem at 11:30 am. Following the Telangana government's appeal, Metro trains and vehicles were halted as 'Jana Gana Mana' was played through public address systems.

Hyderabad: At 11.30 am this morning, Hyderabad traffic came to a standstill with vehicular movement halting and traffic signals turning red as the national anthem was played across the city from public address systems at traffic junctions.
Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao participated in a mass recital at Abids Circle today in Hyderabad. State Ministers and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi were also present here.
The national anthem was also played on metro trains, halting operations for a brief period.
The city police were instructed to maintain strict discipline throughout the event and to ensure that there is no traffic movement or noise when the national anthem is being played.
The arrangements for the mass singing of ‘Jana Gana Mana’ were overseen by Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and city police commissioner C.V. Anand.
Anand appealed to people to stay in their places at least for a minute. All citizens and commuters were requested to stand and sing the National Anthem at the junctions.
The national anthem was also to be played on Metro Rail trains which were stopped at that time.
Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd. MD, N.V.S Reddy, had appealed to the commuters to stand when the National Anthem is played in trains.
Further, the anthem was played in all government offices and public places as part of the 'Swatantra Bharat Vajrotsavalu' programme to mark India's 76th anniversary of Independence.
The mass singing was conducted following an appeal made by the Telangana government.
Officials of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC), Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL), Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC), and Transco, among other departments, issued instructions to their employees to participate in the event.
