KEY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Deepak Chahar has been out of action since February.
  • He injured his hamstring while playing for India against the West Indies.
  • Chahar failed to play a single game for CSK in IPL 2022.
Veteran Indian spinner Amit Mishra on Friday (July 29) took to Twitter to share a big update on the fitness of a star Indian pacer Deepak Chahar, who already has missed a lot of cricketing action this year. With the 2022 edition of the T20 World Cup scheduled to start in less than three months' time, the availability of the star pacer will be a big boost to India’s chances.
The 39-year-old senior spinner posted two pictures from his Twitter account with Chahar, who has been out of action since February. The 29-year-old pacer suffered a hamstring injury during the T20I series against West Indies and then hurt his back during the rehabilitation process, which he was going through at the National Cricket Academy in order to get himself fit and ready to take part in the 2022 season of the Indian Premier League.
The right-arm medium pacer, who has a record of dismissing six batters for just seven runs in T20Is, was signed for Rs 14 crore by Chennai Super Kings in the mega auctions this year, but he failed to play a single game for the franchise.
But according to an update provided by Mishra, the pacer has regained his fitness and is gearing up for his comeback. Sharing the pictures from the training session, Mishra captioned, "Good news for CSK’ fans.. He is fit and very soon will be ready for team India and CSK. Wishing you all the very best @deepak_chahar9."
In an interview with The Telegraph last week, Chahar himself shared an update about his recovery and said that he is upbeat about attaining prime fitness before the India squad gets finalised for the tour of Zimbabwe next month.
"I’m quite pleased with my recovery, and I believe I’ll be able to make the squad for the Zimbabwe tour and then the Asia Cup. I’ve also been bowling in the emerging team camp here (NCA) and do feel a lot better as I’m going on to bowl. Fitness-wise, I’m in a much better place," he said.
