It was on May 20, 2022, that Dhaakad was released. The film, starring Kangana Ranaut in the lead role, failed to perform at the box office and immediately after, there were rumours that the film's producer had to sell his office to repay the pending loans and dues. Deepak Mukut, who backed the film, has now reacted to the said rumours.
In his recent interview with Indian Express, the producer clarified that the said reports are just rumours. He also said that he has recovered maximum loss and is hopeful that whatever is left will also be recovered.
The producer said: "These are baseless rumours and absolutely wrong. I have already recovered maximum loss and whatever is left will be recovered in the due course."
The producer also talked about the film's performance at the box office and explained that he doesn't truly know what went wrong. However, he added that he would like to believe that it's "people's choice" as to what they accept and what they want to watch.
Sharing that they made the film with a lot of conviction, the producer added: "But according to us, we feel proud to have made a good, female-led spy action thriller, a genre less explored, with good conviction."
Helmed by Razneesh Ghai, the film co-stars Saswata Chatterjee, Arjun Rampal and Divya Dutta in pivotal roles. Apart from Deepak, Sohel Maklai also backed the film. Kangana had also reacted to reports of the film not performing well at the box-office. In an earlier post on her Instagram Stories, Kangana said that she delivered a Rs 160 crore hit in Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi in 2019. It was then followed by Thalaivii in 2021, which Kangana described as the biggest film of her career. She also talked about her turning a host for Lock Upp, and explained that it's the year of blockbusters for her.
