With the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 on the horizon, cricket teams have been looking to revamp their jerseys ahead of the mega event. Cricket Australia, who will be hosting the tournament Down Under, has unveiled its indigenous kit on Wednesday.
It would be the first time that Australia will be wearing the indigenous-themed jersey in the T20 World Cup where Aaron Finch & Co. would be looking to defend their crown.
The new kit will have a gold & green gradient on the trunk while the sleeves will be black. The kit has reportedly been designed by Aunty Fiona Clarke and Courtney Hagen.
"The overall design is to do with the process of connecting with yourself as an individual, as a team, in the community and whatever is surrounded by you with the river, the land, whatever you see," Clarke said on the occasion.
Hagen, on the other hand, explained that the idea behind the design of the kit is to incorporate the colours of both the First Nation flags in Australia.
"In the middle we’ve been able to incorporate the colours of both of First Nations flags in Australia. So you’ve got the red, black and yellow, which represents the Aboriginal flag and the blue, white and green which represents the Torres Strait Islander flag," Hagen said.
Australia have been drawn in the Group 1 alongside teams like New Zealand, England and Afghanistan. The names of two more teams which will be added to the group are yet to be established. The defending champions will kick-off their campaign against the Kiwis on October 22.
Cricket Australia has already announced its squad for the showpiece event. It is as follows:
Aaron Finch (c), Pat Cummins (vc), Ashton Agar, Tim David, Josh Hazlewood, Josh Inglis, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Kane Richardson, Steven Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, David Warner, Adam Zampa.
