Bhubaneswar: A Zilla Parishad (ZP) member of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) was found hanging at his residence in the Sishupalgarh area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on Saturday morning.
The Zilla Parishad member of Zone 11 in Nimapada, Dharmendra Sahoo was found hanging from the balcony of his house, reported The Odisha Television (OTV).
Though the exact reason behind the alleged suicide of the Sahoo is yet to be ascertained, a post written by him and posted on his social media account just four hours before his death, has raised questions on the death of the BJD leader.
In the post, he mentioned some video clips stored on two mobile phones. “All the videos are in my two mobile phones. Please bring all those to public limelight,” Sahoo wrote in Odia language as quoted by OTV.
However, it is not known whether police have seized the mobile phones, the deceased has mentioned in his social media post.
Sources said Sahoo had earlier attempted suicide and was taken to a private hospital in a critical condition. He returned to his residence a few days back after discharge. Sahoo natively hails from Khandiakud village under the Gop block of Puri. He lived with his family at Silupalgarh on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar and owns a business, reported OTV.
Police rushed to the spot after receiving the information about his death and seized the body of the deceased. Later, the body was sent for post-mortem and police launched an investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, Sahoo’s father-in-law speaking to the media persons said that he was an alcoholic and used to indulge in frequent arguments with his wife.
“This suicide is not the result of one day’s quarrel. This is going on for the past three months. After a quarrel, he used to leave home and stay in a hotel for 3-4 days. He had gone somewhere and was brought home after a lot of persuasions. However, he attempted to end his life at home earlier once. However, I never filed an FIR as we wanted to unite the family not break it. He always tried to extract money from me. Last night, he came home drunk and said either ‘I will kill or die’,” Sahoo said as quoted by OTV.
