Popular Telugu filmmaker Puri Jagannadh is currently busy in the promotional activities of his upcoming movie Liger, featuring Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday in the lead roles. Well, over the past few months, movies from the South Indian film industry are doing much better business than Bollywood movies and this even started a debate about Bollywood vs South films.
Recently, during an interaction with a publication, Puri Jagannadh opened up about the North vs South debate and revealed that though dubbed versions of South films are working in North, Telugu audience do not prefer watching dubbed Hindi movies.
When asked about the same, the Liger director told ETimes, “It's absolutely right. It's not working big time actually. North people are accepting South ones. But if a Hindi film dubbed in south is not accepted by audience there. There is a set of Hindi movies that Telugu audiences prefer watching, but not specifically the dubbed ones.”
Talking about the movie, Liger is an upcoming sports drama written and directed by Puri Jagannadh. Other than Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday, the movie also stars Ramya Krishnan and Ronit Roy in pivotal roles. Liger will witness the Bollywood debut of American boxer Mike Tyson, who plays an extended cameo in the movie.
Meanwhile, talking about the fate of Liger at the box-office, Vijay told during a recent event, “My favourite dialogue in Liger - ‘We are Indians... Podham Kotla Durham... Aag Hai Andar. Duniya Ko Aag laga Denge. Sab ki Waat Laga Denge.’ There is no doubt about the movie, the movie is a blockbuster. The whole of India should hear the sound.”
Vijay will be seen playing the role of an MMA fighter and the movie is set for a theatrical release on August 25, 2022.
