Sona Mohapatra says it’s a shame that some Bollywood celebs are not even fluent in Hindi

According to Sona Mohapatra, some Bollywood stars can't even speak Hindi correctly. This remark is also related to the viral debate about Hindi language supremacy between Ajay Devgn and Sudeep. The singer also applauded South Indian films for embracing their culture in movies like RRR and Pushpa.

Sona Mohapatra expresses her disappointment regarding some Bollywood actors who are not fluent in Hindi despite working in the Hindi film industry. The Ambarsariya musician talks about how some Hindi actors struggle during the production while how the Indian aesthetics are strong in south films.
The playback singer has been concentrating more on live performances, but she is still a significant player in the music industry and plans to stay in it.
In an interview with India Today, Sona talked about the South Indian industry embracing their culture. She said, “I can say one thing, that I have watched RRR and Pushpa, and I was literally jumping and dancing and kind of making the ‘foofa’ crowd uncomfortable and I had one reaction. Hats off! The effort, the art direction, and the casting was brilliant. It was great to see them embrace their culture."
She also continued talking about Bollywood actors struggling to speak the Hindi language properly. “Although we have some incredible stars in Bollywood, I must say that there are actors who can barely speak Hindi, and it’s a shame because, as a Hindi film star, one should be fluent in the language. The Indian aesthetics are quite strong in South films.”
In April 2022, Kiccha Sudeep and Ajay Devgn engaged in a debate about Hindi language supremacy on Twitter which invented a whole new debate topic. During one of his film launch events, Sudeep said, “Hindi is no more our national language”.
Devgn, in return, tagged the South superstar in his tweet and wrote in Hindi, “ My brother, according to you, if Hindi is not our national language, then why do you release your mother tongue movies by dubbing them in Hindi? Hindi was, is, and always will be our mother tongue and national language. Jan Gan Man,".
On the professional front, Sona will soon be featured in the documentary Shut Up Sona, which she defines as a feminist reflection on the music and Bollywood industries.
