Pune: A sensitisation workshop organised by the Pune city police on Saturday on topics such as sexual abuse of children, provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act as well as the concept of ‘good touch-bad touch’. It was attended by principals, teachers, non-teaching staff and management committee members of around 900 schools from Pune and surrounding areas.

The participants included joint commissioner of Pune police, Sandeep Karnil, senior police officials and in-charge inspectors of all the police stations in Pune, reported The Indian Express.
The police said that the recent incidents have highlighted the crucial role each of the stakeholders including parents, school authorities, teachers, counsellors and the police play in the wellbeing and safety of the children. The importance of creating an environment of trust and sharing in regard among all stakeholders and children was underlined in the workshop, said the officials.
The were sessions on sexual abuse of school children, creating awareness on substance abuse such as drugs, alcohol and tobacco, provisions of the POCSO Act and providing safe transport arrangements for children in the workshop.
In order to sensitise the children about aspects pertaining to interpersonal behaviour, sexuality, gender issues and sexual abuse workshops for children focussing on the concept of ‘good touch-bad touch’ are being conducted by the police. For these activities the police take help of behavioural experts, social workers and child psychologists.
