Srinagar: ‘Self-proclaimed’ journalist in police net for raping, blackmailing, extorting money for girl

Srinagar: In a major arrest, the Jammu and Kashmir Police held a self-acknowledged journalist for allegedly raping a girl and extorting money from her. The arrest was done on Saturday. The accused has been identified as Nadeem Ahmed Ganie alias Nadeem Nadu.
As per an official statement from the Srinagar Police, accused Nadeem Ahmed from Anantnag's Qazibagh had lured her through a WhatsApp group made for people seeking help. The accuse later forced her into a sexual relationship after fraudulently sedating her, news agency, ANI reported .
The victim further alleged that Nadeem Nadu had also taken her objectionable pictures after sedating her and using them to blackmail her into forced physical relationship many times. According to the police, the accused had also taken her gold ornaments by blackmailing her.
The police have booked a case against the accused under sections 376 (Punishment for rape), 384 (Punishment for extortion), and 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code in the Women Police Station in Srinagar. The investigation into the matter is underway.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Owais Wani has been constituted to look into the matter along with Sleet Shah, SHO woman Khalida Parveen and ASI Mohd Yousuf Shah, the statement asserted.
