KEY HIGHLIGHTS
  • England will host India in a one-off Test match from July 1 to 5
  • The fixture is part of the five-match Test series that was halted last year
  • Ben Stokes will be leading the home team
India and England will resume their on-field rivalry and will square off in a one-off Test match in Edgbaston from July 1 to 5. The one-off Test is a part of the five-match Test series that was halted after the 4th Test last year due to COVID-19 cases in Team India's camp. India hold a 2-1 lead.
A win or a draw will see India win their first Test series in England for the first time since 2007. A defeat will extend their wait by another 3-4 years. There are still doubts over Rohit Sharma's availability for the fixture and Jasprit Bumrah will lead the visitors if the captain sits out.
Sam Billings will keep wickets for England. On the eve of the fixture, here's a look at some important stats between India and England in Test cricket -
Batting
Sachin Tendulkar tops the run-scoring charts between the two teams. The Master Blaster piled up 2535 runs against the Three Lions in 32 Tests. His tally includes 7 centuries and 13 half-centuries. Following him is Sunil Gavaskar, who scored 2483 runs in 38 Tests.
Alastair Cook sits at the 3rd spot with 2431 runs. Former England captain, Joe Root, has 2353 runs against India and can finish as the top-placed batsman on the list if he continues his dream run. Root has 8 tons for England, most for any batsman between the two teams. Virat Kohli acquires the 5th spot with 1960 runs and will aim to breach the 2000-run mark in the fixture.
Bowling
The only English bowler with over 100 scalps against India, James Anderson sits at the top spot with 133 wickets. He missed the 3rd Test against New Zealand and is now fit for the all-important fixture against India. Former India spinner Bhagwath Chandrasekhar sits next to Anderson with 95 scalps. He took 8 five-fors, most by any bowler between the two teams.
Former India captain Anil Kumble finished with 92 scalps and is followed by R Ashwin, who has dismissed 88 English batsmen. He didn't feature in a single match on the previous UK tour. Sitting at the 5th spot is former India captain, Bishan Singh Bedi. The legendary spinner scalped 85 wickets in 22 Tests against the Three Lions.
