Agra: Three people, including a building owner and his two kids, were killed after a massive fire erupted at Madhuraj Hospital in Agra. The fire is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit, police said.
While the patients in the hospital were safely evacuated, the doctor and his kids, who lived on the first floor, were trapped inside. The deceased have been identified as the owner of the hospital Rajan (45), his daughter Shalu (17), and his son Rishi (14).
"The hospital owner's family was sleeping on the top floor of the hospital. The owner, his daughter and son died of suffocation, matter is being probed," said Vikas Kumar, SP City, Agra.
Superintendent of Police, City Vikas Kumar said, the blaze erupted around 5:30 am on the first floor of the building in Naripura locality. The hospital was running underneath a house in the Shahganj area of the city.
"The owner of the private hospital and his family resided on the first floor, while the hospital operated from the ground floor. Three people were killed in the incident, while two are being treated at the hospital and are out of danger," Kumar said.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences and directed the district magistrate and police officials to rush to the spot and ensure relief work and proper treatment for those injured.
"A proper enquiry is being conducted to find details about the registration of hospital in residential premises" said the CMO.
