Information & Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur walked the red carpet at the 75th Cannes Film Festival with the Indian delegation on Tuesday, May 17. The Union Minister wore a cream coloured sherwani as he posed with celebs R Madhavan, Nawauzuddin Siddiqui, filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, Grammy award-winner Ricky Kej, CBFC Chairman Prasoon Joshi and CBFC member Vani Tripathi at the grand event.
The Union Minister, who arrived in France earlier today, was received by India's Ambassador to France Jawed Ashraf. He is a part of this year's Marché du Film - festival de Cannes as India has been named "country of honour". Anurag Thakur earlier said that the Indian Pavilion will focus on positioning India as the 'Content Hub of the World'.
His Twitter handle featured several pics of the Union Minister leading the way on the red carpet alongside Indian celebrities. The tweet read, "A historic moment as India 🇮🇳 the 1st ‘Country of Honour’ at Marche Du Films @Festival_Cannes gets set to manifest into the ‘content hub of the world and the preferred ‘post production hub’ for global film makers."
News agency ANI shared a video of Anurag Thakur and the Indian delegation arriving on the red carpet, "Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur, Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, CBFC members Prasoon Joshi, Vani Tripathi & Ricky Kej at the India pavilion at #CannesFilmFestival2022 India has been named the Country of honour at Marché du Film - festival de Cannes."
Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his delight in India being named the "country of honour". He said in a statement, "Rich heritage and cultural diversity are India’s strengths. We have a lot of stories to be explored. India possesses immense potential to become the content hub of the world. Government of India remains steadfast in its efforts towards furthering ease of doing business in the film sector."
Meanwhile, actress Deepika Padukone is a jury member at the Cannes Film Festival. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan arrived on Tuesday ahead of her first look at the red carpet.
