Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation’s ‘Talk to Mayor’ initiative will be held on a new day and at a new time now. Citizens can contact the Mayor and share their observations, grievances and ideas about the city from 3 pm to 4 pm on Fridays from now on.
In order to talk to the Mayor, Firhad Hakim, about any concern related to the city, citizens can dial- 1800 572 1213 or 1800 345 1213.
Earlier, the phone calls were directly received by the Kolkata Mayor between 1-2 pm every Saturday.
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) revived its ‘Talk to Mayor’ initiative through which citizens of the city can call on a designated number to register their complaints in January 2022.
The one-hour interaction programme was first started in 2019 allowing Kolkata residents to directly call up Mayor Firhad Hakim and tell him their grievances. According to the KMC, the registered problem would then be solved within seven days.
The service was stopped before the Kolkata Municipal Corporation election in December 2021.
The ‘Talk to Mayor’ on the Saturday which fell on September 17, 2022, was cancelled in view of Vishwakarama Puja.
Another initiative called ‘Show your Mayor’ was introduced by the KMC later in May this year.Through this, the citizens who cannot get their issues resolved within the one-hour interactions during ‘Talk to Mayor’ can upload their problems along with pictures through the chatbot.
A WhatsApp chatbot was launched to receive complaints from aggrieved citizens. Residents can WhatsApp “Hi” to 8335999111 and then type their name before selecting the nature of the complaint.
The next step will be to click a picture of the problem and share the exact map location. The chatbot will then ask for the ward number. Finally, the complainant has to give a brief description of the problem.
The report of action taken are shared with the complainant. This service runs parallel to the Talk to Mayor programme.
