Mumbai/ New Delhi: As the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra collapsed following the resignation of Uddhav Thackeray, the Congress party, one of the members of the alliance said that it is a 'sad day' for democracy in Maharashtra and India. Listing the states that have witnessed similar political fates in the past, Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala said that today, 'defection is democracy'.
"A sad day for democracy in #Maharashtra & India! People’s mandate is again run over by the bulldozer of allurement-inducement-intimidation & crass political corruption," Surjewala said as he listed Karnataka,
Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, and Meghalaya as states where 'people's mandate' was run over.
"Right of Voters to choose a Govt has been trampled by political corruption. The tenth Schedule of Constitution- Anti Defection Law- is a dead letter now - observed in violation. Courts have failed to check the treachery committed on Democracy," Surjewala said in a series of tweets.

We will tell you everything: Devendra Fadnavis

Hailing the Maha Vikas Aghadi and its leaders for 'fighting the principled fight - for truth, for righteousness, for harmony, for progress and for the Constitution', Surjewala said that it was time to 'reclaim our country'. As reported earlier, the MVA government in Maharashtra collapsed after Uddhav Thackeray resigned as CM after a rebellion from within the Shiv Sena. Shortly later, he also resigned as the Member of the Legislative Council (MLC), while thanking Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar for supporting him.
The Bharatiya Janata Party is expected to make an announcement regarding government formation in Maharashtra. "We will tell you everything tomorrow," said BJP leader and former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.
