Chandigarh: Punjab Information and Public Relations, New and Renewable Energy Sources, and Housing and Urban Development Minister Aman Arora on Monday claimed that jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi's close aide Deepak Tinu escaped because of "black sheep in the police force" during the previous Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) governments in the state.
One of the main suspects in the death of Punjabi singer and Congress leader Sidhu Moosewala, Deepak Tinu escaped from custody in the Mansa district, police said on Sunday.
Regarding the security lapse, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader said, "Strict action will be taken against the black sheep who were born during the Congress and Akali regimes in the police force. If this happens again in the future, strict action will be taken against the black sheep. The officer whose name came in the matter has been dismissed and FIR has also been registered against him."
News agency ANI mentioned Punjab Police sources as saying, "Deepak Tinu befriended the CIA (Crime Investigation Agency) in-charge of Mansa district, Preetpal Singh, and after winning his trust he escaped with his girlfriend from Jhunir's guest house while the CIA in-charge kept sleeping in another room."
"There was a selfish motive behind the kindness of CIA in-charge Preetpal Singh on gangster Deepak Tinu. That is why the CIA in-charge was taking such a big risk by taking the gangster lodged in the high profile case in his car without handcuffs and without security," the sources said.
Sources added that Pritpal Singh had brought gangsters like this without handcuffs and security before as well.
"During the last one week of interrogation, gangster Deepak Tinu had befriended Preetpal Singh and he was given a selfish motive. After which CIA in-charge Preetpal Singh used to take gangster Deepak Tinu to meet his girlfriend at a guest house in Jhunir town, about 25 km from Mansa. Pritpal Singh had also provided mobile to Tinu," they said.
The CIA in-charge had started trusting Deepak Tinu so much that he had even taken him to his house once, said ANI.
Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Sunday that an FIR has been filed against the errant police official following Deepak Tinu's escape from custody in the Mansa district.
Moreover, Gaurav Yadav informed that the officer has been apprehended and suspended under Article 311.
Police on Sunday said that Tinu ditched CIA officials when he was being brought from Kapurthala Jail to Mansa on remand in a private vehicle on Saturday night.
"Tinu was being brought to Mansa's CIA staff office from Kapurthala Jail when he escaped from custody. The accused had to be probed in connection with the Moosewala murder case," the Mansa Police said.
MS Chinna, IG, Bhatinda, said teams have been dispatched to find Tinu, and no police personnel would be spared if they were involved in his escape.
A day after the state government curtailed Moosewala's security cover, he was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Mansa on May 29. After being shot at point-blank range, the Punjabi singer was brought to the Mansa civil hospital and pronounced dead.
Over 30 rounds were fired at Moosewala, who was found slumped in the driver's seat by locals.
Lawrence Bishnoi was suspected of being the mastermind behind the daylight killing, according to the investigation. In this case, Canada-based Goldy Brar, his close aide, is also being investigated. Through Interpol, the Punjab Police have issued a Red Corner Notice against Brar.
As a Congress candidate, Moosewala contested the 2022 Punjab Assembly Election from Mansa but lost to AAP candidate Vijay Singla.
