New Delhi: Responding to the query whether bad publicity on the international stage was a reason to worry about, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that in a globalized world, the debates and the politics of India will also play out beyond the Indian border.
Jaishankar said this while speaking at a special session- “Navigating the global conflict” of the Times Now Summit 2022 on Friday.
“I treat a lot of this as actually a politics in disguise. Some of it is also the unhappiness or the inability to accept that there is change in India which is not as they wanted to happen,” said Jaishankar.
Answering to another query if democracy is shrinking, the MEA said, “If things were so autocratic, why is PM Narendra Nodi campaigning so hard in Gujarat? If the PM of India is campaigning in so intense manner, he is clearly working for the results what he gets."
"I am not saying that there are no problems in this country. Every society has its imperfection. The fact that people come to India and deliver lectures that we are not free and go back easily. Is this not democracy. There are countries in the world where you and try saying what’s wrong with them, then see the results,” said the Minister at the Times Now Summit.
“The current state of the world is "bad". Today we have multiple stresses, there are still the consequences of Covid-19 and then you have the conflict in Ukraine,” said the EAM.
“An ideological debate is going on in the world and it’s played out in different part of the world differently with different issues,” he added.
