Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated there is no evidence of the monsoon retreating from most sections of the city and forecast light drizzles in Mumbai until the end of this week.
The city saw mild rain over the previous two weeks, and this week the rains stopped.
The IMD forecast for the next 48 hours said, “Generally cloudy sky with possibility of light to moderate rain and thundershowers in the island city and suburbs.”
Sushma Iyer, an IMD weather scientist, said, “Currently, the retreat is happening in North Indian states like Punjab and there is no immediate sign of retreat in Mumbai. So, light drizzles will continue over Mumbai. These will be sporadic spells.”
At the last 24 hours, rainfall at the meteorological stations in Colaba and Santacruz were 7.6 mm and 10.5 mm, respectively. The temperature ranged from 31 degrees Celsius at its highest point to 26 degrees Celsius at its lowest point.
In the last two days, there hasn't been much rain in Mumbai. So much so that the Santa Cruz observatories detected some raindrops during the past 24 hours. Rain is now anticipated to start falling shortly in Mumbai according to Skymet weather services.
Mumbai will get daily rainfall, which will start off light today and become a little more moderate tomorrow. The day after tomorrow may also see some powerful spells.
More rain is expected as a result of the combination of anti-cyclonic winds and winds from the Bay of Bengal Circulation. Additionally, as another storm from Vietnam and Thailand enters the Bay of Bengal and merges with the current system, it may cause some additional rain, and showers may persist over Mumbai for at least another week, until October 1.
