Andhra Pradesh: One held for smuggling 4,000 bottles of liquor, worth Rs. 5 lakhs from Karnataka

Police said they received specific inputs about large quantities of liquor being smuggled from other states into Andhra Pradesh. They arrested one man. The smuggling of liquor is a major headache for the state police and they regularly intercept liquor smugglers smuggling varying quantities of liquor into the state, from the neighbouring states.

Tirupati: As part of the operation meant to check the smuggling on liquor from other states into Andhra Pradesh, Chittor police arrested one man for smuggling liquor from Karnataka. Police said their seized a staggering 4,000 bottle of liquor from the man here on Sunday. Police said the seized liquor was worth Rs. 5 lakhs in the market.
Briefing the media Chittor Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), N Sudhkar Reddy, police received intelligence input about some liquor smuggling operation. Acting on the input a police team led by Circle Inspector (CI) Maddaishchari and his team intercepted a suspiciously moving car near Murakambattu road on Sunday morning.
When the police searched the car, they found it to be stocked with around 4,000 bottles of liquor. Police arrested the driver of the car on the spot, who was later identified as M Ansar (26), Times of India reported.
When Ansar was interrogated by the police, he told them that there were several other people involved in the operation. Based on this input the police have launched a search for five others who were part of this operation, said DSP N Sudhakar Reddy.
Interstate liquor smuggling is varying quantities an ongoing challenge for the police and this particular seizure comes almost a year after a similar amount of liquor was seized by the Chittor police. Then also the police had seized 4,000 bottles of liquor worth Rs. 8 lakh and arrested two men. In that case also the liquor was being smuggled into Andhra Pradesh from Karnataka.
