  • Jimmy Neesham came up with a unique suggestion to keep Jonny Bairstow
  • Bairstow struck at 150 after his exchange with Virat Kohli
  • Bairstow smashed his third Test century in as many games
England batter Jonny Bairstow continued his marauding form in Test cricket as he smashed another quickfire century in the longest format of the game, his third in as many matches, this time against India. Bairstow recovered from a slow start to slam a 119-ball ton against the Jasprit Bumrah-led side in the ongoing rescheduled final Test.
Bumrah's three wickets had reduced England to 84/5 by the end of the second day with skipper Ben Stokes and Bairstow in the middle. After giving him a reprieve, the golden arm of Shardul Thakur struck for India dismissing Stokes but Bairstow had gone into the beast mode by then.
With overcast conditions aiding seam bowling, Bairstow took his time initially on Day 3 to get going, however, an on-field exchange with Virat Kohli ignited something in him. Bairstow was striking at 21 when he said something to Kohli and the former India skipper responded back immediately as the two batters engaged themselves in a heated discussion.
From being 13* (61) to a 119-ball 100, Bairstow definitely took the conversation with Kohli to heart and let it out on the Indian bowlers. Seeing Bairstow go ballistic immediately after the spat with Kohli, several reactions poured in but none more unique than that of New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham.
Neesham, who has played alongside Bairstow for the Welsh Fire in The Hundred came with a hilarious yet innovative suggestion to keep the in-form Englishman quiet. Neesham said, instead of making him angry teams should do anything to make him happy from giving a gift basket every morning to having his car valeted.
"Why do opposing teams keep making Jonny Bairstow angry lol, he gets 10x better. Give him a gift basket each morning, let him know you’re having his car valeted while he’s batting. Anything to keep him happy," Neesham said.
Former India opener Virender Sehwag too had reacted saying that after his tryst with Kohli, Bairstow started batting in Rishabh Pant-mode when he was in Chetetshwar Pujara-mode as his strike rate went from 21 to 150.
Bairstow was dismissed by Mohammed Shami after scoring 106 runs but India still managed to take a 132-run lead and ended the third day adding 125 runs to the same with both Pant and Pujara in the middle.
