Washington DC: US President Joe Biden has appointed 130 Indian-Americans to key positions in the US administration, a White House official said on Wednesday. Citing that the presence of Indian Americans in the Biden administration is the best representation for a community that forms one per cent of the US population, Raj Panjabi, who is currently serving as Senior Director for Global Health Security and Biodefence on the White House National Security Council also read out a list of Indian Americans holding key positions in the Biden administration.
According to the list prepared by Indiaspora and cited by news agency PTI, over 40 Indian-origin personalities hold key positions in various offices across the US. Among prominent names include - Ami Bera, Ro Khanna, Raja Krishnamoorthi and Pramila Jayapal in the House of Representatives. Four Indian-Americans are mayors. Besides administrative positions, the presence of Indian leaders in the field of Information Technology is also significant.
Indian-Americans lead US corporations
From Sundar Pichai of Google to Satya Nadella of Microsoft, a number of Indian Americans lead US tech giants. Shantanu Narayen of Adobe, Vivek Lall of General Atomics, Punit Renjen of Deloitte, and Raj Subramaniam of FedEx are among other significant Indian-American names.
"As many as 75 Indian American organisations have come together to observe the historic milestone of India's journey after 1947. Prominent among these organisations include US India Relationship Council, Sewa International, Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation, Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh, GOPIO Silicon Valley, US India Friendship Council, and Sardar Patel Fund for Sanatan Sanskruti," Panjabi said, adding that the presence of the community is 'something to be proud of'.
