Both the companies have signed a joint venture to produce electric scooters and electric motorcycles in India from 2023. While Okinawa will provide the production line, Tacita wil l provide the powertrain.

Indian electric two-wheeler maker, Okinawa Autotech and Italian e-2W manufacturer, TACITA have signed a joint venture to form a new company to produce electric scooters and motorcycles in India. The new company will be based in India and production will start from 2023 onwards. As part of the joint venture, Okinawa will provide the local development of the future products, and its production line and further sell these electric two-wheelers, TACITA will provide the powertrains, controller, motor, and battery packs.
The line-up of electric scooters and high-end motorcycles will be launched in 2023, and it will be retailed in both domestic and international markets. The connectivity systems of the e-scooters and e-motorcycles will be provided by Okinawa technology. The products will be designed and developed at TACITA headquarters and later, on-road tests will be conducted on both Italian and Indian roads. A test ride will also take place from Okinawa headquarters in India to TACITA headquarter in Italy. This will test the two-wheelers in several harsh conditions and their reliability over long distances. This itinerary will stretch from the end of 2022 to the first half of 2023.

Speaking on the occasion of the joint venture was Mr. Jeetender Sharma, MD & Founder, Okinawa Autotech. He pointed out how there’s been a “ steady and conscious shift in consumer preference” and a “growing demand for premium and performance electric motorcycles in India.” With TACITA’s “advanced and futuristic technology “they will help us in creating a marketplace that matches the demand for futuristic technology and products.”
TACITA was formed in 2009, and offers recreational and competitive off-road electric motorcycles. They design their own powertrains, controller, motor, battery pack, and battery management systems. The electric scooters and motorcycles that it will produce as part of the joint venture will start production in India at Okinawa Autotech’s second facility in Rajasthan. The Italian company recently took part in the African competition, Merzouga Rally with their Tacita T-Race Rally bike. They further took part in the Grand Prix of Qiddya, the official stage of the Dakar Rally and in the ICE Trophy.
