Ratlam: A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against senior medical students of a Government Medical College for ragging their juniors. The FIR was lodged based on the recommendations of the disciplinary committee of the college.
The incident which took place two to three days ago came to the light after the video of the incident went viral on social media platforms. In the video six junior students can be seen standing in a queue with their heads bowed while the senior students could be seen slapping and abusing them. Seven of the accused senior students have been expelled from the hostel and suspended for three to six months from the college.
Sources claimed when hostel warden Dr. Anurag Jain rushed to the spot after receiving the information about the ragging, the senior students misbehaved with him and even went so far as to throw liquor bottles at him, reported The Free Press Journal. Ragging is legally banned in all colleges across the country.
In another similar incident earlier this week, over eight senior medical students of the government-run - Mahatma Gandhi Medical College (MGM), Indore were booked for assaulting, ragging, and bullying first-year students. The identity of the accused students is yet to be revealed.
The FIR was registered at Sanyogitaganj police station on July 25 by an anti-ragging committee of MGM Medical College, Hindustan Times reported. College Dean Dr Sanjay Dixit said, “The complaint was filed with UGC’s anti-ragging helpline, and later it was forwarded to us. As the complaint has electronic evidence including WhatsApp chat and audio recordings that prove the ragging and act of harassment with junior students, the committee held a meeting on July 24 and was of the view that we have evidence against the senior students. The complaint was filed anonymously but the evidence is found to be true.”
