LIC'S D-Street debut: Should investors hold for long term? | India Development Debate

Shares of Life Insurance Corporation of India made a tepid debut on Dalal Street, listing at a discount of close to 9% to its issue price and finally settling at Rs. 872.70. Shares of the insurer were issued at Rs. 949. At the listing price, the market capitalisation of LIC stood at just over Rs. 5.57 lakh crore. This was very much in-line with expectations as a majority of big IPOs have not given strong listing gains. MR Kumar, Chairman of LIC told ET NOW that he expects the national insurer to continue to grow better than industry growth, while DIPAM secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey stated that the focus was put on getting the size and valuation right.
