Shinde Proves Majority In Assembly; Uddhav Challenges Shinde Sena In Mid-Term Polls | The Urban Debate

In this segment of The Urban Debate join us with Afrida Rahman Ali as she discusses the recent developments in Maharashtra politics. The Maharashtra government on Monday led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on July 4 won the floor test in the State Assembly on the last day of the two-day special session of the House. In the 288-member House, 164 MLAs voted for the motion of confidence, while 99 voted against it. Shinde while speaking in the assembly said that the party had entered into an “unnatural alliance” with the NCP and the Congress ever since the Maha Vikas Agadhi government was formed and now the party's focus will remain on development and Hindutva. "It is the BJP which has control now politically and administratively, not Eknath Shinde", said Senior Journalist Smita Gupta in conversation with Afrida Rahman Ali. "Legal battle will go on, there is a political fight for the control of Sena which will continue", said Sanjay Hegde, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court Of India. As Eknath Shinde's government won the trust vote, leaders of the opposition MVA expect mid-term polls to come within six months in Maharashtra.
