Queen Elizabeth II's coffin arrives at Buckingham Palace in London

A plane carrying Queen Elizabeth II's coffin arrived in London on Tuesday. The C-17 Globemaster of the Royal Air Force arrived at the Northolt airbase at 6:54 pm local time.

The coffin of Queen Elizabeth II is carried to the RAF aircraft at Edinburgh Airport, Scotland, Tuesday Sept. 13, 2022, for the final journey from Scotland in a Royal Air Force plane to London.

London: Queen Elizabeth II's coffin arrived at Buckingham Palace in London on Tuesday at around 8:00 pm. Earlier in the day, the Royal Air Force plane carrying the Queen's coffin reached London. The C-17 Globemaster plane arrived at the Northolt airbase at 6:54 pm local time after being flown from Edinburgh. The Queen's daughter Princess Anne accompanied the casket on its journey.
Notably, the plane was recently used for aid missions in Ukraine. Prime Minister Liz Truss and Defence Secretary Ben Wallace were reportedly present at the airbase when the plane arrived. The longest-serving British monarch died on Thursday, September 8.
"Her Majesty The Queen's coffin has arrived at Buckingham Palace, where it will rest overnight in the Bow Room. Tomorrow the coffin will be borne in Procession on a Gun Carriage of The King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery to the Palace of Westminster," the Royal Family wrote on Twitter.
The funeral service of Queen Elizabeth II will take place at London's Westminster Abbey on September 19. The lying in state will continue till 5:30 am GMT on the morning of the funeral. Dean of Westminster, David Hoyle, will conduct the funeral, while, the sermon will be given by Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby.
Members of the Royal Family, Truss, senior politicians and premiers of several countries will present at the funeral. According to reports, US President Joe Biden will also attend the last rites of the Queen. Over 100 kings are expected to be present at the funeral.
The Queen breathed her last on September 8 at Balmoral at the age of 96 years. Immediately after Queen Elizabeth II's death, her eldest son Charles became the King. Charles III was formally proclaimed as the King on Saturday morning at a meeting of the Accession Council.
