Back in 2018, Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana's wife Tahira Kashyap had taken to social media to inform fans that despite early diagnosis and timely treatment, she was suffering from breast cancer stage 1 and was halfway through her chemotherapy at the time of sharing the news. The filmmaker, who has since then battled the disease and emerged victorious, today took to social media to bust myths surrounding it. For the unversed, February 4 is World Cancer Day.
Tahira took to Instagram on World Cancer Day and shared a clip where she offered insights into what are the myths revolving around the disease and also what are the right ways to go about for an early detection and treatment.
Tahira, who captioned the post, "On #worldcancerday MYTHS Vs REALITY #earlybreastcancerdetection #earlybreastcancerawareness #turningkarmaintomission #closethecaregap #stopthestigma #worldcancerday2022,"in the clip shared that ideas like 'wearing a bra causes it', 'it's a curse', 'you are less of a woman', 'it's contagious' and 'it doesn't happen to men' are all incorrect."
She further went on to state that 'self-examination', 'early detection is not just treatable but also curable', 'regular mammograms as suggested by doc' and 'following a healthy routine for your mind, body and soul' are important parameters for treatment and a healthy lifestyle. She concluded by saying, 'Never Give Up!!!".
In September 2018, Tahira had shared that she was detected with pre-invasive cancer—DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ) in her right breast with high-grade malignant cells. Sharing the news on Instagram, she had written, “Simply put stage 0 cancer/pre-cancerous stage, with cancer cells multiplying in a contained area."
Later, she had revealed that despite early detection she was still suffering from breast cancer stage 1 and in an inspiration post had mentioned, "It is a tough phase to be in, but then I would have never known my own strength, which is inherent in each one of us, and which we come to know off when tested. Like I said before, let’s choose to be the heroes of our own drama of life."
