Dubai bound passenger arrested from Delhi airport after being found with nearly Rs 60 lakh worth of foreign currency

New Delhi: In a major crackdown, the customs department authorities arrested an Indian traveller at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport on Sunday after reportedly being caught with Rs 60 lakh in foreign currency.
According to Praveen Kumar Bali, Joint Commissioner of Customs, the passenger was on his way to Dubai when he was apprehended on suspicion and subjected to a thorough personal and baggage check, The Indian Express reported.
Foreign currency was found in the passenger's blue duffel bag during the search. "The recovered foreign money of 262,500 Saudi riyals and 5000 US dollars are worth Rs 58,16,625," Bali added.
In the name of "The President of India Through Commissioner of Customs, T-3, IGI Airport," he said, the collected money was placed in the bank.
Officials said that the passenger was arrested under Section 104 of the Customs Act (the power to arrest) and that the money was confiscated under Section 110 of the Act (seizure of goods/documents).
