Cheteshwar Pujara stunned cricket fans across the globe by walking out to bat during India's second innings during the ongoing warm-up match against Leicestershire. Pujara walked out to crease as India's number eight batter after the dismissal of Shardul Thakur for a knock of 28.
India dramatically changed their batting order for the second innings with Rohit Sharma not opening the batting. In fact, the Indian skipper is yet to walk out to bat so far. Meanwhile, former captain Virat Kohli went out to bat at number seven instead of his usual number four spot.
Pujara's entry to the crease was surprising as he was stated to play for Leicestershire in the game. In fact, he batted for the home side in the first innings where he was dismissed for a duck by star Indian fast-bowler Mohammed Shami.
In order to ensure that all members of India's touring party get game, four Indian players - Pujara, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, and Prasidh Krishna were put in the Leicestershire playing 11. Later on, three Indian net bowlers' Navdeep Saini, R Sai Kishore, and Kamlesh Nagarkoti also took the field for the English domestic side and bowled for them in the second innings.
Talking about Pujara as this match is not an official first-class game, both teams have had a mutual agreements on the playing conditions. After the veteran Indian batter's short stint at the crease in the second innings, the team management's desire for him to spend time on the crease is the likely reason behind his arrival at the crease for the visitors.
This game is India's final preparation for the massive one-off Test match against England starting from July 1 at Edgbaston. The match is one of Rohit & co.'s biggest matches in recent times as a win or draw will seal a historic series victory as they are currently leading the series 2-1.
