Rohit Sharma-led Team India kickstarted their preparations for the upcoming 5th Test match against England with a one-off practice match on Thursday. Rohit-led Team India squared off against County side Leicestershire in a four-day warm-up match at the Grace Road County Ground in Leicester. As per the pre-match agreement, the Rahul Dravid-coached Indian side allowed Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, and Prasidh Krishna to represent the County side against Team India.
Leading the bowling attack of the Leicestershire in the warm-up game, Indian pacer Bumrah was involved in a duel with captain Rohit on the opening day of the practice match. Rohit, who opened the innings of the Indian side with Shubman Gill, copped a nasty blow on the box as one of Bumrah's fiery deliveries hit the veteran opener in the groin region. Rohit and Bumrah's epic face-off soon became the talk of the town on social media.
Talking about the match, skipper Rohit won the toss and visitors India opted to bat first in the four-day practice match against the County side. Completing 15 years in international cricket on Thursday, opener Rohit faced 47 balls and struck 3 fours in his 25-run knock against Leicestershire. Rohit's opening partner Gill scored 21 off 28 balls while Hanuma Vihari perished for 3 off 23 balls in the first session of the 4-day warm-up match at the Grace Road.
India were reduced to 81-5 inside the first 23 overs before the end of the first session. Leicestershire's Roman Walker emerged as the pick of the bowlers on Day 1 of the ongoing warm-up match. Walker bagged the crucial wickets of Rohit, Vihari and Jadeja in the opening session of the practice match at Leicester. The visitors will meet England in the series decider at Edgbaston next month.
