Ludhiana: Factory worker killed while trying to prevent robbery

Police said that the robbers entered the factory by drilling a hole in the rear wall. Inside they came face to face with the factory owner’s nephew and some workers. The robbers fired at the workers and escaped hitting one of the workers who died while being taken to the hospital.

Ludhiana: A factory worker was shot dead by robbers when he tried to stop them from robbing the fastener factory where he worked. Police said the incident happened in Jaspal Bangar area in Sahnewal in the early hours on Monday.
According to the police, a group of criminals drilled a hole in the factory wall and entered it with the intention of robbing the place. While the robbers were trying to execute the robbery, the nephew of the factory owner and some of his workers present there heard some noise and upon inspection they came face to face with the robbers.
On being confronted the robbers pulled out a gun and fired in which one of the factory workers, identified as Bhawani Bhikam was injured. The robbers made a getaway by firing at least six shots at the factory workers. The owner's nephew Jaspreet Singh also had a close shave as one of the bullets went past him scratching his ear. While they were taking Bhawani to the hospital he died on the way. He had been working in the factory for the past two years, Times of India reported.
Later the factory owner Sukhdev Singh told the police that the workers and his nephew heard some noise. They first checked the main gate but found nothing as the robbers had entered by drilling a hole in the back wall of the factory. Later when they checked the backside of the factory they came face to face with the criminals.
The workers raised an alarm and tried to stop the robbers. In the ensuing confusion the robbers fired hitting Bhawani in the abdomen and fled. He said that the robbers took away some sacks of nuts and bolts.
Additional deputy commissioner of police-II Suhail Qasim Mir said that as per their intial investigations they found that the robbers came in a Mahindra Bolero car. While the robbers tried to escape Jaspreet tried to stop them and was dragged for a few meters injuring him.
He further said that the factory does not have a single CCTV camera. However, the police are scanning the CCTV footage of the nearby areas to look for clues.
