Ludhiana: Assistant warden of dental college hostel found dead in water tank

Police said that the assistant warden’s dead body was discovered by the students who had been searching for him. Some even accused the college authorities of harassing him which caused him mental trauma leading to his death. Police have sent the body for post mortem to determine the cause of death.

Ludhiana: The dead body of an assistant warden of a hostel in Baba Jaswant Singh Dental College, Hospital and Research Institute in Moti Nagarwas was found inside a water tank on the third floor of the college building late on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Veer Singh (40). Sources said that Veer Singh had been working in the Dental college for many years. Earlier he had been the librarian of the college and for the past two years he had been appointed as the assistant warden of the hostel. Singh lived inside the college campus with his wife and two sons.
Singh dead body was discovered by the students who had been looking for him after Singh had gone missing on Saturday. They searched the entire college premises and then finally reached the roof of the college building, where they found a pair of slippers. They then called his son Karamjeet, 16, to identify if these belonged to his father. When he identified them as those of his father the students checked inside the water tank and found Singh's body, Times of India reported.
After this several students took to social media to demand that the college authorities undertake a thorough probe of the incident and even accused the college management of harassing Veer Singh causing him severe mental stress.
Some of Veer Singh's relatives termed the incident as murder and accused the college authorities of trying to cover up the incident and not letting them meet Veer's family.
Inspector Sanjeev Kapoor, SHO, Moti Nagar police station, said that they are scanning the CCTV footage from inside the college and hostel premises. In some of the footage Singh can be seen walking alone. Prima facia he said that it appears to be a case of suicide. He further said that Veer's wife Kamaldeep Kaur told them that her husband had been very upset for the past 10 days telling her that the warden had burdened him with a lot of work.
The police have sent the body for post mortem to determine the actual cause of the death.
