Mumbai sees 79 per cent spike in daily Covid-19 cases, records 852 infections in last 24 hours

Mumbai: In a worrying sign that coronavirus might be surging again, Mumbai recorded 852 new infections in the last 24 hours, the highest daily spike since July 1, confirmed the BMC on Wednesday. Apart from cases, one virus-related death was also reported here.
Yesterday, the city registered 476 Covid-19 cases yesterday and saw a rise of 376 more cases today, an alarming rise of 79 per cent in just 24 hours. The total number of active cases has also breached the 3,500-mark.
Of the 852 cases, only 36 patients were symptomatic while the rest 816 were asymptomatic. A total of 9,670 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours raising the cumulative tally of the samples tested so far in Mumbai to 1,79,04,139.
With 433 people discharged from hospitals after Covid-19 treatment, Mumbai's tally of recoveries rose to 11,06,079 on Wednesday while the case recovery rate stood at 98 per cent.
Barring the first two days of this month, Mumbai has been reporting more than 400 coronavirus infections everyday.
It should be noted that back on July 1, the metropolis had reported 978 cases and two fatalities, before the daily number of cases started dipping gradually.
