KEY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Suryakumar Yadav continued his impressive form in T20Is for India in 2022
  • Suryakumar played an exceptional knock of 69 off 36 helping India chase down 187 runs in the series decider against Australia
  • Danish Kaneria made a big prediction regarding Surya saying he will make people forget all the other batting greats
2022 keeps getting better for Suryakumar Yadav as the stylish batter became the highest run-getter in the ongoing calendar year after scoring a match-winning 69 off 36 for India in the three-match T20I series decider against Australia on Sunday, September 25.
Surya, who has had a century against England, and half-centuries in West Indies and then Asia Cup just can't stop scoring runs in the shortest format as he has quickly made a name for himself amongst the best batters in the world with a career strike rate of 174 in T20Is. Former Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria, on the other hand, claimed that with the way he is batting, Surya will leave all the other batting greats behind.
Speaking on his YouTube channel after Surya helped India clinch the series 2-1, Kaneria said, "I have been saying this for a while now, Suryakumar Yadav is one of the best. With his 360-degree repertoire, I'd say that the sky is high. The way he bats, it's like he is announcing himself. He was outstanding in the third T20I.
"He has a different way of playing and he is surely going to be a very big player. The way he bats, he will make people forget all the other batting greats. Yes, Kohli will score a lot of runs and Babar will be very successful, but Yadav will leave everyone behind," the 41-year-old said.
Kaneria said that the clear understanding between Kohli and Surya helped India overcome a couple of early strikes. India had lost both KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma by the 4th over after which Kohli and Surya steadied the ship. While Kohli, who was looking to be a touch aggressive, changed his role as Surya went ballistic as he always does.
"Kohli guided Yadav well, and there was a clear understanding between them. The Australian bowlers had no answers against these two batters. If they continue to bat this way, India will surely overpower every team in the T20 World Cup," Kaneria said.
