Digital University and its establishment were first introduced in the presentation of the Union Budget 2022-23 by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1, 2022. The aim of setting up a Digital University is to provide access to students across the country for world class quality universal education with a personalised learning experience available at their doorsteps.
As per the government, Digital University will be built based on a ‘networked hub-spoke model’ with cutting edge ICT expertise being used for hub building. Digital University will be made available in different Indian languages and ICT formats. The best public universities and institutions of India are also expected to take part and will collaborate as a network of hub-spokes for Digital University.
