Before becoming a household name with her appearances on television shows like Comedy Circus, The Kapil Sharma Show and more, actress Archana Puran Singh was known for her performances in films like Raja Hindustani, Mohabbatein, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. While the comedy shows have made her one of the most popular television personalities in India, they have also resulted in a lack of acting offers.
Archana, in a recent interview, opened up about not getting the chance to showcase her acting skills. The Jalwa actress said that she's dying to perform and urged filmmakers to cast her. She asserted that she has the capability to do serious roles too and can even cry on screen.
Opening up about being typecast, the senior actress spoke about her iconic character Ms Briganza from superstar Shah Rukh Khan's Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. She said that the 'chhap' was so solid that even after 25 years, people offer her similar roles in the comedy genre. "As an actor, I feel deprived, cheated and I have been left yearning for good roles," she told Indian Express.
Archana added that being typecast can be the death of an artist. "As an artiste, I am dying to perform. People have seen just one aspect of my craft. I also have a serious side. I can do so much more than just comedy. Main ro bhi sakti hu, rula bhi sakti ho (I can cry and make people cry too). That side of me is yet to be explored but I am sure it will happen one day," she said.
The actress even went on to say that she's very close to following in Neena Gupta's footsteps and publicly asking for work from producers.
