Uttar Pradesh: Minor girl takes own life by self-immolation in Jhansi; boyfriend arrested

Police said that the girl was in a relationship with a boy of her age. In the suicide note left behind by the girl the police said the girl confessed that the relationship had gone sour leaving her heartbroken and therefore she took this extreme step. Police have arrested the boy and are questioning him.

Jhansi: Police said that a 17-year-old girl committed self-immolation on Monday night. The police also found a suicide note left behind by the girl, based on which the police lodged a case of abetment to suicide.
According to the police the incident was reported from Garwa village which falls under Lahchura police station of the district.
Police said that the girl has been identified as Shilpi who left behind a suicide note in which she said that the reason why she took this extreme step was because she was having an affair with a boy and their affair had gone wrong. The girl was heartbroken and in a state of depression she killed herself.
The police were informed about the incident and they reached the spot and sent the girl's dead body to the hospital for post mortem, Times of India reported.
The police said that through the suicide note found with the girl they came to the realisation that the boy with whom the girl had the ill-fated affair is also a juvenile and is around the same age as the girl.
Later, senior police officials, including SSP Jhansi Rajesh S, also reached the spot for investigation.
SSP Jhansi told the media that they have registered a case against the juvenile boy and have arrested him and he is being questioned about his relationship with the deceased girl and what went wrong between the two that led to the girl killing herself.
The police are also trying to determine if there is any other angle to the case.
