Rocketry actor R Madhavan talks about PM Modi's digital economy plan at Cannes: There was a furore

While talking about his directorial debut, Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, at the Cannes Film Festival, actor R Madhavan praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he opened up about PM's digital economy.

The 75th annual Cannes Film Festival is currently going on and there are many celebrities representing India at the festival. Recently, actor R Madhavan took the stage at Cannes to talk about his film Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, which also marks his directorial debut. During the same, he went on to praise Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Taking to Twitter, Union minister Anurag Thakur shared a video of Madhavan explaining how PM Modi's vision of digital economy was thought to be a disaster by economists but it was not.
In the shared video, the actor can be heard saying, "When the Prime Minister of India, when he started his term, he introduced microeconomy and digital currency. There was a furore around the world, among the economic community which said, 'This is not going to work. This is a disaster' because how are you going to get the farmers and the people who are uneducated in the small villages to handle a small phone or a smartphone and handle the accounting."
The actor went on to say that it was considered that microeconomy is going to be a big disaster in India. He added, "In a couple of years that whole story changed and India became one of the largest users of microeconomy in the world and you know why it happened. It's because the farmers did not need to be educated to use a phone to know if they have got their money, who the money they have sent to... That is new India."
The video was shared online with the caption, "When our PM @narendramodi introduced a micro economy & digital currency there was a furore…it is going to be a disaster. About Rocketry: The Nambi Effect
Meanwhile, Madhavan's film Rocketry: The Nambi Effect had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. The biographical drama is based on the life of Nambi Narayanan, a former scientist and aerospace engineer of the Indian Space Research Organisation who was falsely accused of espionage. The movie is written, produced and directed by Madhavan, who is also playing the titular role alongside Simran.
