World Teachers Day is celebrated annually on October 5 since 1994. It is celebrated to acknowledge and appreciate the teachers for their contribution to the development of their students. This year the theme is, “Transformation of education begins with teachers.”
The history of World Teachers' Day takes us back to 1994 when it was established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). According to UNESCO, World Teachers' Day is co-convened in partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO), UNICEF, and Education International (EI).
As the theme speaks for itself, this year the celebrations of World Teachers' Day 2022 will be focused on the commitments and calls for action that were discussed in the 'Transforming Education Summit 2022'. The summit was conducted in September 2022.
While World celebrates teachers day on October 5, India celebrates it on September 5 to mark the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. He was a former President of India, scholar, philosopher and Bharat Ratna recipient. He also served as the President of India from 1962 to 1967 is was a renowned scholar, philosopher and recipient of the Bharat Ratna.
Back then, many students approached Dr.Radhakrishan, a celebrated teacher, to celebrate his birthday during his tenure as the President. Upon this request, the former president decided to observe September 5 as Teachers' Day to show appreciation and gratitude to all teachers in India and celebrate their contributions towards the education system and model of the country.
