Assam: Police, CRPF confiscates 14 gold bars weighing 2 kg from bus; two apprehended

Assam: In a major crackdown, Assam Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) arrested two persons and confiscated 2.323 kg of gold from a passenger bus in Karbi Anglong district. The joint operation was carried out on September 10, ANI reported.
Based on a tip-off, a Naka checking was set up by police and CRPF personnel at the Laharijan area in Karbi Anglong district before the gold was seized.
“During checking, the security personnel recovered 14 gold bars weighing 2.323 kg from the night super bus. We arrested three persons in connection with this,” said, SDPO of Bokajan Sub-Division.
The arrested persons have been identified as Md Mohim and Md Masharudin, both hail from the Thiubal district of Manipur. The police official also said that the bus was coming from Manipur and was going towards Guwahati.
Similarly, a huge cache of drugs worth nearly Rs 7 crore were seized from Assam's Karbi Anglong and Karimgang district.
Acting on specific information, a joint team of police and CRPF personnel launched a search operation in the Lahorijan area of Karbi Anglong district, bordering Nagaland, and seized 800 kg of ganja and 40.07 gm of heroin from a vehicle coming from Manipur.
During the search of the vehicle, the police found ganja hidden in 80 packets along with the heroin kept inside three soap boxes, police said.
