Trying to kiss a cobra he had rescued, a Karnataka man learned the hard way how far not to go with snakes. The victim, identified as a resident of Bhadravathi in the Shivamogga district, was bitten on his lip by the cobra during a peculiar display of affection towards the reptile — captured in a viral video.
The incident occurred in the Bommanakatte area of Shivamogga city when onlookers gathered around the man to witness what would have been the venomous snake’s release in a garden.
The cobra reportedly slithered away after inflicting the bite on the unsuspecting man, who survived its defensive act.
The king cobra is among the most venomous snakes in the world and the longest of them all. A single bite from the beast delivers the amount of neurotoxin enough to kill 20 people or an elephant.

“Look before you leap (for snakes among sweet flowers do creep)” - German proverb

While the man in Karnataka made it, he represents an incredibly lucky statistic that gets medical assistance before it's too late. In August, a man popular for catching snakes in Uttar Pradesh died after being bitten by a snake he was trying to show off.
Devendra Mishra —of Shahjahanpur, UP — had caught 200 snakes and filmed videos with several of his rescues before this.
However, shortly after removing a snake from his neighbour’s house, the former head of Maruajhala village was bitten by the highly-venomous Common Krait.
He "started showing off and went around the village with the snake wrapped around his neck”, a witness told IANS.
Mishra attempted to treat the snakebite with “various herbs” instead of going to the hospital and ultimately succumbed to envenomation.
